10:45-12:00am: Communicating on the Social Network (Itay)
- Check out 'Wikis in Plain English' video
- Jazz up your profile (adding photos, video, progress, more)
- Leave comments on other people's profiles
- Add a comment to the Watercooler thread in Educators Forum

1:00-2:00 pm: Game Design and Development Curriculum Overview (Itay)
- Present Curriculum
- Present Game Design Unit
- Brief introduction to Playing to Learn topic (Shannon)
2:00-2:15pm Break
2:15-3:15pm: Developing Social Issue Games (Barry Joseph)
- Brief History of Games for Social Change movement
- Group Activity: Play and critique social issue games -- looking at value integration, and gameplay
3:30 - 4:30pm: Choosing a Social Issue for Your Game (Barry Joseph)
- Game for finding local and global issues which everyone in the group feels is important
- Teams activity - brainstorming a game idea that links a local and global social issue
4:30-5:00pm: Imagining Your Game (Shannon)
- Announce teams
- Brainstorm as a team to come up with a game idea to work on for the next two days.
Evening Assignment: Draft Team Game idea
- Use the techniques from today's sessions to decide on a social issue that you wish to address in your game.
- Write up the idea and post it on your own Wiki Projects page.
Day 2
(8:00 - 5:00)
All Sessions except Press Conference in Computer Lab - Room 806
8:00-9:45am: Imagining Your Game in Flash (Steward, Itay)
- Starting a Team Game page with title, and a gallery of team member photos and profile links. (You will upload all your team assignments to this page after each session.)
- Getting your Team's Game Idea into Flash
- Posting your Game idea .swf on the Team page
10:00-11:00am: Press Conference (Idit)
- Opening Remarks from Idit Caperton
- Pat Kusimo talks about why this kind of professional development and classroom instruction are important.
- Demos of Year 1 Student Work by Year 1 Educators and Students (Denise, Bill, Heidi, Steward); Conference participants can walk around the room to see projects and to talk to teachers individually (25 minutes).
11:00-12:00pm: Paper Prototypes (Daniel)
- Presentation by Daniel on how paper prototypes work
- Planning and sketching out your game idea on paper
12:00-1:00pm: Lunch
1:00-1:45pm: Planning Your Game (Shannon)
- Introduce Planning topic and template
- Have one team member begin filling in plan as team continues working on paper prototypes
1:45-2:30pm: Drawing in Flash (Brian)
- Presentation: Intro to Flash drawing tools
- Work on drawing a scene from your game; Brian and team will circulate and assist with questions
2:30-2:45pm: Break
2:45-4:00pm: Drawing in Flash (Brian)
- Presentation: Layers, Keyframes
- Open time to work on drawing game scenes; Brian and team will circulate and assist
4:00-4:15pm: Profile page tools (Shannon)
- Review of Progress Report chart, how to use it, why it is important for your stipend report
- Explanation of Teaching Philosophy box, why it is important
- Take a few minutes to fill in your progress chart for this week and to describe your Teaching Philosophy
4:15-4:30pm: WVU Research Project (Pam Whitehouse, WVU)
4:30-5:00pm: Blogs (Lee)
- Review and subscribe to Lee's Globaloria WV blog
- Set up your own blogs
- Write a blog entry about your experience so far at the Globaloria Academy
- Add a link to your blog on your wiki profile
Evening Assignment: Drawing Game Screens in Flash
- Continue work on your profile and first blog entry
- Teams should continue to work on their paper prototype, design plan and drawing game scenes in Flash.
Day 3
(8:00 - 4:00)
All Sessions except Game Presentations in Computer Lab - Room 806
8:00-11:00am: Adding Navigation (Brian)
- Open time to create a second game scene using keyframes (you should have at least two scenes)
- Presentation: Adding buttons to your scene
- Open time to work on buttons for game scenes; Brian and team will circulate and assist
(optional break from 10:00-10:15)
- Using buttons to navigate between your keyframes (Creating a Scripts layers, using Actions window, using some basic ActionScript)
- Open time to work on making buttons connect game scenes; Brian and team will circulate and assist
11:00-12:00pm: Adding Animation (Brian, Steward)
- Presentation (Steward): Frame-by-Frame animation
- Open time to work on animations for game scenes; Brian and team will circulate and assist
12:00-1:00pm: Lunch
1:00-1:30pm: Adding Animation (Brian)
- Presentation: Motion Tweening
- Open time to work on animations for game scenes; Brian and team will circulate and assist
1:30-2:15pm: Adding Interaction (Brian)
- Presentation: Movie Clips
- Open time to work on animations for game scenes; Brian and team will circulate and assist
2:15-2:45pm: Uploading files to Wiki and preparing for Presentations (Itay)
2:45-3:00 pm: Break
3:00-4:00 Game Presentations
- Each team will present their game idea in Flash to the group for feedback
4:00-4:15pm: Wrap-up
- Review and reflections on this week's workshop
- Description of August 19-20 Workshop in Charleston
- Announcement of Team Game Challenge -- Presentations in August Workshop (PRIZE for Most Advancement since July!)
