Personal Information:'HELLO! Welcome to my EDUCATOR's WIki for Pressley Ridge School @ White Oak Village! WOW...what a first year we experienced through our GLOBALORIA program. Both my students and I experienced a phenomenal year of both academic and social growth and development. As I contemplate the upcoming 2009-2010 academic school year, I am anxious about the possibilites of expanding our program. Though there will be challenges, it is through the challenges that true learning can occur. Please stop by again after the school year begins to see what's happening at our school! Oh, and by-the-way, you may BLOG me at http://missloriglobaloriaclass.blogspot.com/

*Meaning of MY name:

Feminine form of the Latin name LAURUS, which meant "laurel". This meaning was favorable, since in ancient Rome the leaves of the laurel trees were used to create victors'
garlands. My name was borne by the 9th-century Spanish martyr Saint Laura, who was anun thrown into a vat of molten lead by the Moors. It was also the name of the subject of poems by the 14th century Italian poet Patriarch. As an English name, Laura has been used since the 13th century.

*School you represent: Pressley Ridge School at White Oak Village Walker, WV

*Role in Globaloria program at your school: Our Globaloria vision for the 2009 - 2010 academic year will take on a totally new dimension. This year I am excited to be working collaborativly with Neale Garvin, History teacher, here at Pressley Ridge School! Through this collaborative effort, the goal is to have our Pressley Ridge students create an on-going Historical Jeopary Game! While this is currently a 'vision,' I cannot wait to see what happens when our students begin to take ownership of the project! My classroom continues to be child centered and academically based, therefore, I believe that Globaloria will continue to be a GREAT fit. My GLOABLORIA experience thus far supports that student engagement occurs as they take ownership of their game project. It is both exciting and rewarding to watch student's reaction as they grow through the Globaloria journey. In summary, via the GLOABLORIA platform, my student's desire to learn became intrinsically motivated as their desire to achieve success with their gaming project developed!
